FORMER PRESIDENT KAGAME'S BODYGUARD KILLED IN SOUTH AFRICA.

Cape Town, SOUTH AFRICA: President Paul Kagame’s former bodyguard has been assassinated by gunmen in Cape Town South Africa. Rwandan high commissioner to SA Vincent Karega confirmed that Camir Nkuruziza was a metered taxi driver who was hijacked on on the corner of Hugo and Milton roads in Goodwood around 5pm. Karega said the hijackers put Nkuruziza in the backseat of the car and sped off before he was killed in the crossfire in the shootout with the police. “Probably they wanted to take the car … Maybe they wanted to take him somewhere it is dark or so and dump him. I don’t know,”   Karega said. Ugandan news site New Vision reported Nkuruziza was Rwandan President Paul Kagame’s former bodyguard before he became a government critic. The publication suggested he was assassinated instead of a victim of crime. Karega believes the article is an attempt by Uganda to discredit the Rwandan government. “Any opportunity for them is a political weapon.”...

SOUTH AFRICA'S NEW CABINET MADE OF 50% WOMEN.

Pretoria, SOUTH AFRICA: South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday cut the number of cabinet ministers from 36 to 28, in a move he said would tackle the country’s “bloated” government and improve efficiency. Half the new ministers are women, making South Africa one of the world’s few gender-balanced governments. Ramaphosa announced his new cabinet after he led the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party to victory in elections earlier this month. He took office last year after the ousting of graft-tainted Jacob Zuma, who had expanded the number of ministerial posts in an alleged attempt to strengthen his patronage network. “To promote greater coherence, better coordination and improved efficiency, we (are) reducing the number of ministers from 36 to 28,”  Ramaphosa said in televised address to the nation. “This is a significant move of downscaling our state. Many people believed our government… was bloated and this was agreed right a...

ETHIOPIA HAS OVERTAKEN GHANA AS AFRICA'S FASTEST GROWING ECONOMY.

Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopia Prime Minister. Ethiopia has overtaken Ghana as Africa’s fastest growing economy, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Tuesday. Ghana – the second-biggest economy – is expected to experience a 6.3 per cent gain this year, the IMF’s World Economic Outlook released on Tuesday shows. Commodities including oil, gold and cocoa are the mainstay of Ghana’s US $43 billion economy, which surged 8.5 per cent last year as the Sankofa crude field started up in May. Ghana’s growth booms and busts have been closely linked to oil since it became a producer in 2010. Ethiopia, whose gross domestic product is almost double Ghana’s, has drawn investors including General Electric Co., Johannesburg-based Standard Bank Group and hundreds of Chinese compani...
