Manchester, ENGLAND:
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has slammed Prime Minister Boris Johnson after a racist incident during the Manchester derby.
Both Jesse Lingard and Fred appeared to be racially abused by a Manchester City fan during the second half at the Etihad Stadium.
And former Red Devils captain and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville raised the issue that the Prime Minister has 'fuelled' racism through his political policies in recent years.
“It is happening in our country, our league,” Neville explained.
“You are watching the Prime Minister's debate last night where he is talking about migration to this country, and people having to have certain levels.
“It fuels it all the time. It has got worse over the last few years in this country and not just in football.”
Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp echoed Neville’s comments; raising the problem as ’societal’ and labelling the racist behaviour as “disgusting”.
“It is a society problem,”
Redknapp added.
“These are his views and he is walking around like that.
Redknapp added.
“These are his views and he is walking around like that.
“It is terrible and something has to be done. It is not just about banning him from football. Everyone has a responsibility.
“He thinks he can come to a game and racially abuse someone playing football. It is disgusting.”
English football and the FA have called for harsher punishments as a result of racist abuse they have suffered, most recently in Bulgaria.
But Neville admits England must get their own house in order first, with examples such as Saturday night’s showing the Premier League is still fraught with serious problems.
The former right-back went on:
”We always judge other countries on how they deal with racism but we are poor with dealing with it ourselves.
“It continues to keep coming back and won't go away until correct punishments are handed out.”
City have said they will work closely with Greater Manchester Police to identify the individual, while United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called for the supporter to be given a lifetime ban.
A life ban will do . I agree with ole
