The name must be in any original African language that is recognised by the government as an official language in South Africa.
According to the Minister, the Home Affairs is going to print over 50 000 names and their meaning.
The names will be made available at every hospital and maternity across the country to help parents who do not speak nor understand the African languages to know the meaning of the names.
”South Africa does not have a true African identity; this new Law will make us very unique and pure African,” said the minister.
” There will be an option where parents can let Home Affairs automatically add an African name of their choice on the child’s birth then an SMS with the meaning of the name will be sent to the parents,” concluded the minister.
