MUSLIMS CONSIDER QUEEN ELIZABETH'S TIES TO PROPHET MUHAMMAD.

Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926)  is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms .

This article appeared in the Middle East and Africa section of the print edition under the headline: "Is the caliph a queen?"

“Queen Elizabeth  must claim her right to rule Muslims.” So ran a recent headline on the Arab Atheist Network, a web forum. It was only partly in jest. According to reports from Casablanca to Karachi, the British monarch is descended from the Prophet Muhammad, making her a cousin of the kings of Morocco and Jordan, not to mention of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader.

The claim, first made many years ago, is gathering renewed interest in the Middle East. Why is not clear, but in March a Moroccan newspaper called Al-Ousbouetraced the queen’s lineage back 43 generations. Her bloodline runs through the Earl of Cambridge, in the 14th century, across medieval Muslim Spain, to Fatima, the Prophet’s daughter. Her link to Muhammad has previously been verified by Ali Gomaa, the former grand mufti of Egypt, and Burke’s Peerage, a British authority on royal pedigrees.

Much hinges on a Muslim princess called Zaida, who fled a Berber assault on her home town of Seville in the 11th century and wound up in the Christian court of Alfonso VI of Castille. She changed her name to Isabella, converted to Christianity and bore Alfonso a son, Sancho, one of whose descendants later married the Earl of Cambridge. But Zaida’s own origins are debatable. Some make her the daughter of Muatamid bin Abbad, a wine-drinking caliph descended from the Prophet. Others say she married into his family.

Reaction to the queen’s purported Muslim extraction has been varied in the Arab world. Some have warned of a perfidious plot to revive the British empire with help from Muslims, particularly Shias, who revere the Prophet’s descendants. They note that the BBC’s Arabic channel ran the bloodline story. But others welcome the news. “It builds a bridge between our two religions and kingdoms,” says Abdelhamid Al-Aouni, who wrote the article in Al-Ousboue. Other reports have called the queen sayyida or sherifa, titles reserved for the Prophet’s descendants.

Her son, Prince Charles (bin Philip), is intrigued by Islam. “Perhaps there were times when he wanted to marry more than one wife,” says one of his Muslim confidants. Charles is a patron of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, where he greets audiences with the Muslim salutation, as-salamu alaykum (peace be upon you). He is said to want a multi-faith coronation and to be ordained as “defender of faith”, not “the [Christian] faith”. He might try amir al-mumineen (commander of the faithful), an honorific favoured by Muslim rulers

CUBA CLAIMS CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER IS FIDEL CASTRO'S SON.

The suicide note left by Fidel Castro’s eldest son has rocked the Cuban nation this week, with the most astonishing revelation being the claim that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was his half-brother and the son of the late Fidel Castro. The handwritten note left by Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, 68, the eldest of Fidel Castro’s children, appears to confirm the longstanding rumor in Cuba that Fidel Castro fathered Justin Trudeau after a public tryst with Margaret Trudeau in 1970. “ Castro Diaz-Balart, who had been attended by a group of doctors for several months due to a state of profound depression, committed suicide this morning ,”  Cubadebate website reported. The death of the high-profile government nuclear scientist, also known as “Fidelito”, or Little Fidel, because of how much he looked like his father, stunned the nation, however it is his “ explosive ” suicide note that has set tongues wagging in Havana. Amid a wide-ranging barrage of complaint

Texas, UNITED STATES: U.S. authorities have arrested the son of a former president of the West African country of Guinea and his wife for allegedly enslaving a countrywoman in their Texas home. Mohamed and Denise Cros-Toure were being held in a federal detention facility Friday pending a probable cause hearing Monday in Fort Worth on a forced labor charge. Toure’s attorney, Brady Wyatt, told The Associated Press that his client is the son of late Guinean President Ahmed Sekou Toure, who helped lead Guinea to independence from French rule in 1958. Sekou Toure was the country’s first president, a role he held until his death in 1984. Ahmed Sékou Touré (January 9, 1922 - March 26, 1984) was a Guinean political leader who was elected as the first President of Guinea, serving from 1958 to his death in 1984. MINERS IN NAMIBIA DISCOVER SHIPWRECK LOADED $13 MILLION WORTH OF GOLD.

Image: Dieter Noli. Diamond miners working off the coast of Africa were beyond surprised when they discovered a 500-year-old shipwreck teeming with gold worth $13 million and other treasures. The ship, aptly named ‘Bom Jesus’ or ‘Good Jesus,’ was like a miracle to the miners. Bom Jesus was first identified and discovered by geologists working for the mining company De Beers in 2008. It was found off the coast of Namibia near Oranjemund. Image: Dieter Noli. According to experts, Bom Jesus is from the Golden era of Portuguese explorers who set sail in all directions in search of new lands to colonize. The ship left Lisbon in 1533 under the supervision of Sir Francisco de Noronha. But on its way to India, it mysteriously vanished. Before the discovery, the miners were draining an artificial salt lake. As the lake dried out, many lost ships were found at the bottom of the lake. Bom Jesus was among them, and it is considered the oldest of all the shipw

GARY NEVILLE SLAMS UK PRIME MINISTER FOR FUELLING RACISM IN FOOTBALL.

Manchester, ENGLAND: Manchester United legend Gary Neville has slammed Prime Minister Boris Johnson after a racist incident during the Manchester derby. Both Jesse Lingard and Fred appeared to be racially abused by a Manchester City fan during the second half at the Etihad Stadium. And former Red Devils captain and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville raised the issue that the Prime Minister has 'fuelled' racism through his political policies in recent years. “ It is happening in our country, our league,” Neville explained. “You are watching the Prime Minister's debate last night where he is talking about migration to this country, and people having to have certain levels. “It fuels it all the time. It has got worse over the last few years in this country and not just in football.” Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp echoed Neville’s comments; raising the problem as ’societal’ and labelling the racist behaviour as “disgusting”. “It is a society problem,”   Red

WHY CHINA'S DOG-MEAT MARKET HAS EXPANDED.

Every year during the summer solstice, a dog-eating festival takes place in Yulin, a city in the southern Chinese province of Guangxi. This year’s event ended with the usual controversy. Photographs of dogs being fried or treated cruelly went viral.  The Jinhua Hutou Dog Meat Festival, as it is called, was abruptly canceled last week. Animal-rights activists and American congressmen demanded that China ban the eating of dogs and cats, as Taiwan did in April. Yulin’s local government took modest steps to restrain or hide some of the more contentious activities, such as selling dogs in food markets. Still, the festival was packed. Why has the controversial culinary habit become so popular in China? Contrary to cliché, dog meat has not always been a common item in the Chinese diet.  Unlike in the West, eating dogs has never been taboo, but it appears to have been rare in the past. Government accounts single out butchers who sold dog meat, suggesting it was unusu

MANY KENYANS BOYCOTTED INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS.

As Kenya marked its 54 year of independence, empty stadiums have characterized the celebrations countrywide. Kenyans to a large extent in most parts have given the events a wide berth including the Kasarani Stadium where President Uhuru Kenyatta was leading the national celebrations. Camera men panning the stadium for ‘crowd excitement’ in several occasions had to stick to the main dais perhaps avoiding ‘embarrassing’ shots in one of Kenya’s greatest days. This was not only visible in Nairobi but was also the case in several parts of the country.  Here are some of the photos from some of the counties in Kenya. NEAR EMPTY MIGORI GROUNDS. KASARANI.
